Race features

Here are just a few reasons why we think you’ll enjoy the Eden Marathon:

·         Themed medal for all race finishers

·         Pasty and a beer for all race runners – where else but Cornwall?

·         Cash prizes for race winners and prizes for category winners

Hundreds of T-shirts are either not collected or not worn after race events each year so once again we have taken the decision not to offer a T-shirt at this years event and instead, we will create wildflower habitats here at Eden that supports wildlife and helps pollinators currently under threat.

If you would still like to purchase a souvenir T-shirt of the event, these will soon be available to purchase. More details to follow.

Free entry to Eden for runners and accompanying family members and supporters on the day.

Water stations every three miles and isotonic drinks every seven miles

Chip timing, and free online analysis of your race via RunPix

Why we set up this Marathon

We created the course through Cornwall's dramatic Clay Country not only to offer a unique sporting experience for runners nationwide, but to showcase the unique region on our doorstep. The idea came from a conversation with the local St Austell Running Club, whose commitment, enthusiasm and passion have been invaluable in putting on the event.

The Marathon is just one of the many ways Eden aims to act as a catalyst for economic growth in the local region. If we could build this place, in a former clay pit, surely together we can all take on even bigger challenges…

Please check our FAQs page regularly for the latest information relating to the pandemic, as we will be updating in line with government guidelines.

Frequently asked questions

You can find all sorts of practical information below – and we also have a Marathon Facebook page where you can chat to other runners.

Can I have a refund if I have to withdraw from the race?

You are entitled to cancel your entry and receive a full refund of the fee, provided we receive written notice of cancellation within seven days of payment of the fee, as outlined in the terms and conditions. To do this please email [email protected] or write to the Eden Project Marathon Event Administration, FR Systems Ltd, Unit 11, Evolution, Hooters Hall Road, Newcastle, Staffordshire, ST5 9QF. No refunds will be allowed after this fourteen-day cooling-off period.

Refund protection is available when you enter the event. We recommend you include this option in order to get a refund of the entry price if you are unable to run.

Terms & Conditions

Is it possible to defer my entry to the following year if I am unable to run for any reason?

Sorry, as stated in our Terms and Conditions of Entry, we do not operate a deferment system, so we regret it is not possible to defer your entry to another year.

Can I transfer my place to another runner?

Sorry, as stated in our Terms and Conditions, we are unable to offer any transfer of places for this event. Please be aware that using another competitor’s number will lead to disqualification.

Can I transfer from the Marathon to the Half Marathon?

Yes. For the 2024 Marathon, if you need to transfer your place before 30 September 2024 you can do this through the marathon booking site. From 1 October 2024, please simply let us know on the day of the event itself and we can help you transfer races. You will not be entitled to any refund of the full Marathon entry fee.

Can I transfer from the Half Marathon to the Marathon?

Yes, it is possible to transfer to the Marathon until 30 September 2024 – unless all places have already been filled. You can do this through the marathon booking site. You will need to pay the additional entry fee for the Marathon.

How do I change my booking details online?

If you change your email or postal address, please do let us know so we can keep in touch in the lead-up to the event, including sending you your race number and timing chip. To do this, visit the Marathon booking site and log in with the details provided in the email that accompanied your booking confirmation.

Are there cut-off times for the Marathon?

We have a strict cut-off time for the Marathon of five and a half hours. We have also set up interim cut-off times to ensure that runners make it around the course in a safe and timely way.

If you do not reach the seven-mile mark within one and a half hours you will be diverted to the Half Marathon course. You will receive a Half Marathon medal and t-shirt at the finish but will not be eligible for category positions in the Half Marathon.

If you do not reach the mile 13 (Lanlivery) within two hours 55 minutes, and mile 17 (Luxulyan) within three hours 30 minutes, you will not be allowed to complete the course and will be transported back to Eden. You will not be eligible for a medal but you will of course receive your t-shirt, pasty and pint.

There is no cut-off for the Half Marathon.

When will I get my race pack, race number and timing chip?

If you live in the UK, we’ll send you your race number and timing chip by post in early October 2024. If you are travelling from overseas you will need to collect your race number and timing chip from the Visitor Centre at Eden Project. These will be available from Saturday 19 October 2024.

To reduce our environmental impact, we don't mail out our Race Packs. You'll receive an email with a link to download before the race.

If your email or postal address changes in the meantime, please update this by logging in to the Marathon booking site.
