Can I walk the event? - What time does the course close?
The full and half marathons both close at 6.00pm. We encourage all to complete the courses and enter the distance that you feel you are able to cope with.
If you struggle to complete your distance on the day, of course you can walk but please keep to the right side of the track to ensure you do not impede/obstruct other runners. A runner must retire immediately if ordered to do so by a medical officer of the race.
Advice on training can be found on the training zone part of the website.

Raising money for Charity:
In the last 35 years the New Forest Marathon has donated over £1.30 million to support over 125 local good causes and community groups. To help this pot grow we have set up the New Forest Marathon Community Fund which is a registered charity (charity number: 1176268). We aim to get as many runners as possible to run for this cause but we recognise that you may have other charities close to your heart, if this is the case we encourage you to donate the first £10.00 of sponsorship to the New Forest Marathon Community Fund to help support the local community groups and inspire healthy projects in the forest and surrounding areas.
You can find out more about the New Forest Marathon Community Fund on the fundraising page of the website.
You can make a donation in a number of ways:
You can donate at any time by clicking on the Virgin Money Giving logo below.
- We have added an option on the entry page of the race booking process where you can simply add the amount you wish to donate to the fund. After checkout the amount you've entered will go straight to the Community Fund.
In 2019 we have raised over £12,000 and funded over 22 projects helping hundreds more people to get active.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support in helping to make a difference in our local community.
Charity Helpers:
The marshals and helpers on the course mostly represent the community groups that you are raising money for.
First Time Runners:
All routes share the same start and finish experience, we have designed it this way to inspire runners to progress to the next level in the following years. By making the event in 2020 COVID safe no spectators will be allowed to enter the St Giles House Race Village. If this is your first major run, we recommend the Half Marathon as the Full Marathon can be quite challenging.
Refunds:
Full refunds will be available within 14 days of purchase, following this we are unable to offer refunds if you do not run.
Wheelchairs, Cyclists, Child buggies and Dogs:
Regrettably our courses are not currently suitable for wheelchair access so we cannot accept wheelchair entries at this stage.
Cyclists, Child buggies, Dogs are not permitted to accompany runners in the race due to the narrowness of tracks in certain parts and to avoid congestion. We are however looking to develop these areas in the future.
Headphones:
Although not recommended, personal stereos, IPods & mp3 players can be used at the 2020 New Forest Marathon Event. Please read the following advice:
The New Forest Marathon Team follow UKA standards and strongly advise that you DO NOT wear in ear headphones or use audio devices during the race for your own safety, especially on road sections. However, we endorse the use of Aftershokz as this provides a safe solution allowing participants to hear their surroundings as well as their music. In 2020 although NOT RECOMMENDED, there will be no disqualification for use of audio devices.
